Using dynamic methodologies such as Human-Centered Design, Lived Experience, and Plain Language significantly enhances both engagement and impact.

Below are examples illustrating how I applied these strategies to improve user experience.

Medicaid Unwinding

When the Public Health Emergency (PHE) related to COVID-19 ended, thousands of Medicaid recipients risked losing their coverage. I led efforts to communicate this risk to our American Indian and Alaskan Native (AIAN) populations.

By recognizing the unique communication barriers faced by this community, I developed targeted messaging to ensure that beneficiaries do not lose their coverage unnecessarily.

Weekly Equity Highlights

Health equity and healthcare are rapidly evolving fields, with new stories and discoveries emerging daily. To keep our office informed about industry highlights, I suggested creating a weekly internal newsletter.

By subscribing to industry insider listservs and following major news outlets, I can spotlight essential stories for our health equity managers, ensuring they remain updated on critical issues.

Lived Experience

Understanding someone’s personal experiences is crucial for addressing complex and often systemic issues that impact many people. Listening to stories from various enrollees of Medicare, Medicaid, and the Marketplace provided me with new insights into health journeys that I could never fully experience myself. This is an important first step toward initiating policy changes.
